For the qualitative detection of human occult blood in faeces

Clearview iFOB

The Clearview iFOB test is a immunochemical rapid, one-step test for the qualitative detection of human occult blood in faeces.

Many diseases can cause hidden blood in the faeces. This is also known as Faecal Occult Blood (FOB), human occult blood or human haemoglobin. In the early stages, gastrointestinal problems such as colon cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures may not show any visible symptoms, only occult blood. The traditional testing methods which are Guaiac-based methods, lack sensitivity and specificity and also have diet restrictions prior to testing.

FOB testing primarily functions as a screening method for early colorectal cancer. The Clearview iFOB test is designed to detect human haemoglobin in faeces. The reason for this approach is that large adenomas and most cancers bleed intermittently in the Gastro Intestinal (GI) tract. The ability to detect resultant blood in faeces may be the only symptom enabling early diagnosis of a potential cancer. Additionally, removing bleeding polyps while still localised within the GI wall can stop them developing into cancers at a later stage

The Clearview iFOB test is a simple and rapid diagnostic test offering fast results and excellent sensitivity. The advanced technology of the Clearview iFOB test gives healthcare practitioners extra confidence in its accuracy. The in-built procedural control indicates that the Clearview iFOB test has been performed correctly.

How to use the Clearview iFOB test

Step 1 - To collect fecal specimens:

Collect feces in a clean, dry specimen collection container (F) or a specimen collection sheet (G). Best results will be obtained if the

assay is performed within 6 hours of collection. Specimens may be stored for 3 days at 2-8°C if not tested within 6 hours.

Step 2 - To transfer fecal specimens into the collection tube with the extraction buffer:

Unscrew the blue cap of the specimen collection tube (A), then randomly stab the specimen collection stick into the fecal specimen in at least 3 different sites (B). Do not scoop the fecal specimen. Screw the blue cap back onto the specimen collection tube tightly, then shake the specimen collection tube vigorously to mix the specimen and the extraction buffer. Specimens prepared inthe specimen collection tube may be stored for 3 days at room temperature (15-30°C) if not tested within 1 hour of preparation.

Step 3 - Test Performance:

When ready to perform the test remove the test device from the sealed pouch and place on a clean and level surface. Do not touch the membrane of the strip.

Stage 4

Invert and hold the specimen collection tube upright and unscrew the red cap of the specimen collection tube (D). Invert the specimen collection tube and transfer 2 full drops of the extracted specimen (approx. 100 μL) to the specimen well (S) of the test device, then start the timer. See illustration. Avoid trapping air bubbles in the specimen well (S).

Stage 5

Wait for the colored line(s) to appear. Read results at 5 minutes.
