Self examination aid to help reduce the risk of pre-term birth

Careplan VpH Glove

The Careplan VpH Glove is a self examination aid to help reduce the risk of

pre-term birth. It is designed for measuring the acidity of the vaginal environment (vaginal pH).

Vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis increase the relative risk of premature birth. Pre-term deliveries occur in as many as 6% of all pregnancies, and vaginal infection is often a contributing factor. Acidity levels are indicative of the vaginal tract’s defence against such pathogens: a weak natural defence is reflected in an increased pH value. Women who would most likely benefit from use of the Careplan VpH Glove are those who have had previous vaginal infections, a previous late miscarriage, are expecting twins, or who have had a pre-term low birth weight baby before.

The Careplan VpH Glove enables pregnant patients to measure their pH values from the early stages of their pregnancy through to the 37th week of gestation. The easy-to-use Careplan VpH Glove is both reliable and effective and therefore, in most cases, threatening infections can be detected and treated in a timely manner. For more information about the benefits of using the Careplan VpH Glove please visit the features and benefits section.

In pregnant women the Careplan VpH Glove allows self-measurement of vaginal pH, which:

  • Can help identify those at risk of premature birth
  • Prompts early intervention by healthcare professionals
  • Lowers the rate of premature births.

Step 3

Colours are compared to a colour chart to indicate pH levels. The darker the colour, the higher the pH level.

Step 4

A pH level over 4.4 is a useful indication for appropriate therapy.
